An old bridge is now under construction in Bloomington
The bridge deck of 94th Street as it crosses over I 35W is being replaced, and that means traffic along 94th Street will need to be rerouted to either 90th or 98th streets to cross from east to west, and vice versa, in the months to come. The project began Monday and is expected to continue through mid October, according to MnDOT.
struck several times in more than five decades, particularly by southbound traffic. During the project, damaged beams will be replaced as the bridge deck is elevated. Approaches to the bridge will be adjusted to meet the new vertical profile of the bridge, pedestrian crossings will be upgraded to meet accessibility standards, and bridge approaches and frontage ramps will be reconstructed, Pedersen explained.
The bridge was constructed in 1957 and was one of the first in the state to use prestressed concrete girders, according to Scott Pedersen, a MnDOT project manager. Pedersen spoke to area business owners in January, detailing plans for traffic management during construction, which will include temporary closing of entrance and exit ramps in both directions. The ramps are expected to remain open during much of the project.

Westbound 94th Street traffic will be detoured to northbound Lyndale Avenue, westbound along 90th Street and southbound at Penn Avenue.
Ramp closures are estimated to last for 30 days, although the dates of the closures have yet to be determined, according to Nick Carpenter, the Metro District public affairs coordinator for MnDOT. There will be two weekend closures of I 35W traffic in both directions, as well.
The project cost is estimated at $4.04 million, and the work is intended to increase the lifespan of the bridge while providing better pedestrian accessibility, according to Carpenter.
It's a slightly less prominent bridge, but one that has historic significance and is in need of replacement, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Work is underway to preserve a historic bridge in Bloomington, but it's not the $14 million bridge project in the river valley that pedestrians have clamored for.
During ramp closures, northbound I 35W traffic will be directed to 90th Street while southbound traffic will be directed to 98th Street.

The 94th Street bridge is among the 2 percent of more than 3,000 Minnesota bridges to receive a poor rating, the lowest rating given by MnDOT. In replacing the bridge deck, MnDOT will raise Nike Sneakers Black Womens
